Friends Who Remain Awake in the Dark

Created as part of a themed trilogy of three separate but related works, celebrating the women of Iraq and their stories from ancient Sumer and Mesopotamia through today.

The title is from a poem by Nazik Al-Malaika, a female poet from Iraq.

The rose is the national flower of Iraq.

The trilogy was for an exhibition in Mississauga Ontario, a fine art exhibition on the theme of Iraqi women, part of an Iraqi Festival of Ontario.

I work in mixed media and collage in all of my work, with found papers, acrylic paints, pastels, pencil crayons, graphite, ink, gouache, watercolour, spray paint, metallic paint, just some of the possibliities.
